Globally, 30% of marketers cite email marketing as having the highest ROI of all digital marketing channels. But keeping your email performance on track can be tough.
That’s why we’re excited to share a free tool inside your HubSpot account (available for all plans) that helps you track and improve your email campaigns. It's the Monitor of your Email Health. We know it’s been around for a while, but it’s still relatively new for some, and we don’t think many people are fully taking advantage of it.
The HubSpot Email Health Tool shows you important metrics like open rates, clicks, bounces, and spam reports. It also gives you tips to boost engagement and deliverability, making it a handy feature for any email marketer.
Here’s a closer look at how it works and how it can help you get better results from your emails.
Please note:
- Threshold Requirement: You need to have sent at least 400 emails in the last 30 days to view the email health dashboard.
- Data Exclusion: The email health reports won’t include data for emails sent in the last 48 hours.
- Transactional Emails: If you’ve purchased the transactional email add-on, you can also see the performance of your transactional emails in the dashboard, which is super useful!

How to Access the Email Health Tool in your HubSpot Instance
To find it, navigate to Marketing > Emails in your HubSpot account. You’ll see a new tab called Health.
Here, you can check your overall reputation and performance score, which is based on HubSpot’s benchmark. You can even select your industry to compare performance, although, in our experience, once you set an industry, you can’t change it again. Just keep that in mind.
Your email health score is based on a 1-10 scale, with ratings like:
- 1-2: Needs work
- 3-4: Needs improvement
- 5-6: Okay
- 7-8: Good
- 9-10: Excellent
At the top, you’ll see key metrics like:
- Opens
- Click-throughs
- Hard bounces
- Unsubscribes
- Spam reports
- Total emails sent
For those with Marketing Hub Professional, you can filter by campaigns to see how specific campaigns performed. You can also filter by email type (regular, automated, transactional), and if you’re using the transactional email add-on, you’ll see those results here too.
Each campaign's performance is rated, so you can easily identify the emails that need work. For example, if you see a campaign's performance flagged as "Needs work," that’s a clear sign to investigate and optimize.
The dashboard also allows you to see your score over time. For example, if you notice a sharp drop in performance, like in August, this is a clue that something went wrong—perhaps due to a specific campaign.
This is a great opportunity to investigate what happened and make improvements.
At the bottom of the dashboard, you’ll see a breakdown of your high and low-performing emails, helping you understand what worked and what didn’t. It’s a quick way to figure out what resonates best with your audience and which emails need improvement.
Analyzing Metrics and Recommendations for Email Health
Click on any of the metrics to get more detailed insights. For example, you can see if your open rate is above or below the HubSpot benchmark (like an 8.4% increase compared to the benchmark). This helps you understand how well you're performing over time.
Additionally, the tool provides recommendations based on your performance, like suggesting that you focus on engaging contacts if your open rates are low.
This aligns with a strategy we always recommend to our clients: focus on re-engaging your highly engaged contacts instead of wasting resources on those who are less engaged.
HubSpot’s Email Health Tool is a simple but powerful way to track your email performance, find areas to improve, and make your campaigns more effective. It’s easy to use, provides helpful insights, and gives tips to boost your results—perfect for anyone looking to get more out of their email marketing.
With tools to track key metrics, filter results, and compare your performance to benchmarks, you’ll stay on top of your email strategy.
